Panagiota Touloumi
Panagiota Touloumi joined the Department of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Medical Statistics of the University of Athens Medical School in 1990 and is now Associated Professor in Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the same department. She obtained a first degree in Mathematics in 1985 from the University of Ioannina in Greece, an MSc in Biostatistics in 1992 from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London University, UK, a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Athens in 1995 and a PhD in Biostatistics in 2001 from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, London University, UK. She teaches Biostatistics to Medical School undergraduate students and Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Generalized Linear Models at the postgraduate level. She is member of the Steering Committee and teacher of the MSc Course in Biostatistics and member of the Executive Committee of the International Society for Clinical Biostatistics (ISCB). She also participates in several other scientific committees while she is an active member of 5 European or International groups/networks including the International Network for Strategic Initiatives in Global HIV Trials – INSIGHT (it carries out the studies SMART, START, FLU002 and FLU003) and Network of Excellence European Aids Treatment Network (NEAT). Her research interests are focused on the development of novel statistical methods, mainly for the analysis of longitudinal and competing risks data, on infectious diseases epidemiology and on environmental epidemiology. Se is the author or coauthor of more than 78 scientific papers published in peer review English speaking Journals. Her work is cited more than 3500 times, according to ISI Web of Science.
