Demosthenes B. Panagiotakos

Demosthenes Panagiotakos is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics – Epidemiology of Nutrition, at the Department of Nutrition Science - Dietetics, Harokopio University of Athens.

He studied Mathematics at University of Patras, and performed his graduate studies in Mathematical Statistics and in Biostatistics at University of Athens. His PhD in Medicine was performed at School of Medicine, University of Athens. Dr Panagiotakos has a CME Cert in Environmental Epidemiology from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (University of London, UK), and has developed post-doctorate research in Cardiovascular Epidemiology, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA. In the past, he has served as a Lecturer in Data Analysis at University of Portsmouth (UK), a Senior Research Scientist at the First Cardiology Department, School of Medicine, University of Athens (Greece), in which he was involved in several epidemiological studies (CARDIO2000, ATTICA and GREECS), as well as Lecturer at the Department of Nutrition Science - Dietetics, Harokopio University of Athens. From 2003 until now, Dr Panagiotakos also act as a visiting Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Athens, as well as at the Agricultural University of Athens, in post and pre-graduate programmes. His research interests include Cardiovascular Epidemiology, Risk modelling and risk analysis, Nutritional Epidemiology and Multivariate analysis. Dr Panagiotakos has published 3 books, over 300 papers in peer-reviewed international journals with more than 4000 citations, as well as many other papers in national journals or Conference proceedings. He has received 3 Young Investigators’ National and International Awards and 3 Scholarships (2 National, 1 EU). He is a member in several Scientific Societies and Editorial Board member in 7 international journals.
