Apostolos Burnetas

 

Apostolos Burnetas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics of the University of Athens, where he is currently head of the Statistics and Operations Research Section.

Since 2008 he serves as the Associate Director of the Graduate Program in Biostatistics, jointly offered by the Department of Mathematics and the Medical School. He received his Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens in 1986, and a Master in Business Administration in 1992 and a PhD in Operations Research in 1993, both from the Graduate School of Management of Rutgers University, USA. He was at the faculty of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland from 1994 to 2004 as an Assistant and Associate Professor at the Weatherhead School of Management. At the University of Athens he teaches undergraduate and graduate classes in Operations Research, Stochastic Processes, Stochastic Optimization, Statistics, Mathematical Models in Economics and Finance. His research interests are in Stochastic Models and Optimization, Adaptive Control of Dynamic Systems and Applications in Economics and Life Sciences. He has published several articles in academic journals such as Mathematics of Operations Research, Operations Research, Management Science, Transactions of the IIE, Advances in Applied Probability, etc. He has supervised six doctoral dissertations and has been the principal investigator in two research grants awarded by the European Union and the Greek Secretariat of Research and Technology.
